Scholarships

The AFCEA Belvoir Education Program is committed to cultivating the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Through scholarships, grants, outreach, and mentorship, the program supports students, educators, and schools across the region—especially those connected to the military and defense community. 

This initiative reflects AFCEA’s long-standing mission to advance STEM education and support workforce readiness in fields critical to national security.

Scholarship Submission Deadline has been extended to 5pm May 18, 2025. AFCEA Belvoir annually awards scholarships to qualified students who are pursuing degrees in the STEM fields and those supportive of our National Security. Since 2005, AFCEA Belvoir Scholarship program has awarded over $1,500,000 to deserving students and schools in Washington DC, Metro area and beyond. Proceeds from AFCEA Belvoir chapter events and sponsorships go directly to our scholarship, community and grant programs. Scholarships are in the amount of $2500.00. 

Scholarship awards are subject to availability of funding. Scholarship awards are restricted to tuition, course-related expenses, such as fees, books, supplies and equipment, that are required for the courses at the university.

Eligibility Criteria  

  • High School Seniors and Undergraduate students   
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident 
  • All applicants and/or parent must have proof of membership with AFCEA Belvoir at time of application submission. 
  • Applicants must be graduating high school seniors or current undergraduates accepted for enrollment during the 2025/2026 academic year in a full-time course of study that will lead to a degree from an accredited college or university in the United States. Enrollment in distance learning programs do not meet this requirement. 
  • Students enrolled in a 2 year community college are eligible 
  • Home-schooled students and students attending private high schools are eligible. Acceptance to a U.S. accredited college or university in a four-year full time STEM curriculum for computer science, engineering [all], mathematics, physics, chemistry, cybersecurity and management information systems; and Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I)-related fields of study including electrical, computer, chemical, aerospace or systems engineering or electronics. 

Application Requirements 

  • Submit a College/University acceptance letter or documentation of enrollment. 
  • Major in a STEM degree program.  Examples of acceptable STEM fields are: aerospace, chemical, computer, electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering; chemistry, physics, science or mathematics; computer science, telecommunications, information systems, or cyber and information security. 
  • Submit a copy of current College Transcripts (or High School Transcripts if Applying as a High School Senior). 
  • Submit one Letter of Recommendation (one from a Teacher/Professor or Counselor). 
  • Provide a written essay addressing the topic defined in the application. 
  • Completed application
